A point of pride that shows up in much of our public relations & marketing is that Nationwide Homes was the first modular home featured on ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (Williams Family- May 2010). It’s been well over 2 years since that event, and like all good things, the program came to an end several months ago. In the various discussions we’ve had about that project over the years, it’s invariably asked: what benefits came to your company after that episode aired? Our answer typically surprises, and sometimes takes longer to answer than anticipated.
One aspect of that answer is this: We introduced modular building systems to that program, and to the production team that had to oversee extreme builds every week…people who know a thing or two about construction, speed and efficiency. We did so for their season finale of their 7th season. After having done nearly 150 builds without the use of modular in those first seven seasons, they got a taste of it with Nationwide Homes. In the season and a half that followed, between our build and Extreme’s final, they used modular construction over 25% of the time. From zero to a quarter of their builds, in the flip of a switch. Three of those builds involved our company.
We are proud that we not only exposed them to our industry, but in doing so had a lasting impact on how they built many of the remaining homes featured on that show.
